The Challenge Awards winner: best obstacle race in the UK

The Zeus Summer Obstacle Run - By Zeus Races was voted the winner by runners

  • Location: Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire
  • Terrain: 7km, 60 obstacles, muddy
  • Participants: 800
  • Held since: 2015
  • Reviews: 5/5 (28 reviews)

Zeus Races have managed to strike a balance between old-school and modern obstacle courses. At one moment, participants will be wading through muddy rivers, or crawling beneath tyres, and the next they’ll be flying down an inflatable slide or swinging from monkey bars. One of the most popular obstacles on the course even requires racers to climb through a Smeg fridge. The event has become known as one of the best value obstacle races on the circuit, and it also prides itself for its family-friendly atmosphere. Children are welcome to get stuck in, and often end up leaving their parents trailing behind. There’s even a dogstacle race, where pets can get involved with the mud and fun.

    What do the runners say?

Matt W: Really friendly and well organised. Took my sister to run her first OCR-she booked another the same weekend! Really enjoyable and will come again-with more people!

Giles B: A really relaxed family friendly atmosphere and perfect for the whole family. Great mix of terrain, a good variety of challenging obstacles and a party like atmosphere make this a must-do event.

Nicki T: You will never beat the Zeus atmosphere. Fantastic for all the family and even if you come alone you will leave feeling part of the Zeus family. Amazing event from every perspective. One definitely not to be missed year on year.

On their success at the Challenge Awards, organisers Zeus Races said “Zeus Races was created to make Obstacle Racing available to everyone regardless of ability, to bring families together to celebrate their achievements side by side, and to be accessible to all by offering good value for money”

There’s only one way to discover why everyone goes crazy for #itsazeusthing and that’s by signing up for next year’s event.

    And the runners up…

2nd Place: MacTuff - By MacTuff Ltd

This is Scotland’s most popular obstacle race, and it’s not difficult to see why. Held in early January, it’s a great opportunity to shake off the festive indulgence and start ticking off those New Year’s resolutions. There are three distances - 7k, 15k, or 30k - all stacked with obstacles that will provide a serious physical and mental challenge.

3rd Place: Rough Runner - Oxfordshire - By Rough Runner

The Great Tew Estate is a great venue for this Rough Runner, which provides a mix between all terrain running and gameshow-inspired obstacles such as the travelator and swinging poles. With picturesque surroundings, 20 different challenges, and a great runners village, this event keeps participants coming back year after year.
