The Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2020 has been cancelled

Announced on twitter, the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run has been cancelled due to storm Ciara.

CRUK Challengers also tweeted about the cancellation, stating that the Winter Run team will be in touch with runners.

Leading runners through the centre of the capital, the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run has garnered over 80,000 participants since 2015. For one fifth of runners taking on the challenge this will be their first race.

The Cancer Research UK London Winter Run is 10K, or 6.2 miles. The route starts near Nelson's Column in Leicester Square, heads past St Paul's Cathedral and The Gherkin, before looping back towards Blackfriars towards the finish at Big Ben.

This year's race will start with huskies pulling a sled in front of the 25,000 runners for 150m, driven by the UK’s leading female sled-dog racer, Vickie Pullin.

Where does the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run start and finish?

Starting at Trafalgar Square and finishing in Whitehall, the route takes runners eastwards to Cannon Street and back. The closest stations to the starting point are Charing Cross and Westminster. Embankment station is a 10 minute walk away.

Where do I get my event pack from?

Runners will receive their race packs by post from the second week of January. International runners, or runners who do not receive their race packs can pick one up from lululemon on Regent Street on Friday 7 February from 12pm to 7pm or on Saturday 8 February from 10am to 3pm. You will not be able to collect your number on the day, so be sure to get this sorted beforehand.

What will be in my event pack?

In your event pack you’ll find your race number, which you’ll need to pin to the front of your shirt using safety pins, as there won't be any at the start line. Your number doubles as your timing ship, so it's important you don't forget it. Your race pack will also include a blue drawstring bag - this is the only bag that will be accepted in the bag drop-off area.

What do I need to bring with me - is there a bag drop?

All the essentials including your phone, travel card and cash. You’ll also need to bring your race number and your blue drawstring rucksack, which will be the only bag you’re permitted to leave in the bag drop on the day. Organisers recommend wearing an old top when travelling to the starting point to keep you warm and dry before the race.

Will there be toilets at the start?

Due to the central London location of the start line, organisers have warned runners that toilet facilities are limited. It's a good idea to allow extra time so that should you need to, you have time to queue for the toilet.

Will there be water stations on the course?

There is one water station at the 5K mark near the Guildhall Yard.

Can I wear headphones on the course?

While headphones aren't banned, organisers urge runners to not wear headphones, or run with just one headphone in to ensure all runners can hear safety information.

Where are the best places to watch the London Winter Run?

Runners and spectators alike can also enjoy the winter-themed entertainment provided along the route, including Penguin DJs, Polar Bear Hugs and an Après Run Party in Trafalgar Square to complete the festivities.
